Typhoon Nesat/Pedring 22Z 06PST Update

Typhoon Nesat “PEDRING” made landfall between Aurora and
Isabela area this morning and will be in the vicinity of Baguio
City this afternoon packing winds above 100kts. Overnight the storm intensified quickly developing a well defined eye wall as it moved on shore.   Six fishermen have been reported missing  and with the storm yet to make landfall that number may increase. Schools across Luzon have been canceled today suggesting to anyone that if you do not need to go out today to stay indoors as the storm approaches. Over 100,000 people have been advised to evacuate across Luzon with nearly 50,000 people in temporarily shelters in Albay where floods have already been reported.

The rain continues to be a major threat as well, heavy rain associated with Nesat will producing flooding in low lying areas as well as mudslides. The TRMM side scan image below shows the heavy rainfall that will come out of this system. Some areas exceeding over 50mm an hour.

Typhoon Nesat will continue to track West along the southern periphery of the sub-tropical ridge to the North with a second landfall likely near Hainan China. Models consensus is in close agreement to support this as well. And in this case rainfall will be another problem yet again as the entire region continues to be effected by a strong Monsoonal Season.

The following areas remain under Signal Force 3, Aurora
Mt. Province
Nueva Viscaya

In these areas one is advised extreme caution, and do not leave your homes. High winds can send debris flying and cause damage, injury and death.
